In the metropolitan city of Bangalore, there is a need to
envision the suburbs as self-contained spaces catering to the
cultural and recreational aspirations of communities. To
fulfill this vision, a unique and intimate gathering space
aims to engage people of all diversities.
The theatre encompasses an area of 10,000sft. It is designed
to operate throughout the day accommodating various
activities. From hosting workshops and cultural events for
children to providing a platform for artistic and educational
exploration. In the late afternoons, the space is dedicated to
poetry and theatre performances, aimed at engaging art
enthusiasts.
Among the three potential gathering houses, one
is designed as a closed theatre with a capacity of 120
individuals. This theatre features a deep thrust stage,
encouraging active engagement between the audience and the
artists. This approach follows a democratic theatre model
where the audience is invited to participate in the
performances rather than merely being passive spectators.
Furthermore, a flat-roof auditorium offers additional space on
the terrace for workshops and various activities.
An open-to-sky amphitheater is situated in the perimeter,
accommodating around 60 to 70 people. The lower ground floor
will house essential amenities such as changing rooms and
toilets. Additionally, a replica of the main stage is
available for young theatre groups to hone their skills and
get familiar with theatre art. The community kitchen becomes
integral, serving fusion and innovative dishes. The concept of
this interactive restaurant goes beyond mere dining,
encouraging the community to actively participate in the
kitchen.
