Eagleton Woodhouse

The Eagleton Woodhouse is a concept for a sustainable, minimal-impact home designed with an emphasis on transition spaces that seamlessly connect the outdoors with the indoors. Elevated entirely above ground, the design ensures complete water percolation on the property, with no paved surfaces to maximize water infiltration and natural drainage.

Drawing inspiration from Southeast Asian vernacular architecture, the structure is conceived as a temporary, easily-installable installation that can be dismantled and reassembled at another location, reflecting an adaptable, sustainable approach to living.

The home is constructed entirely from timber, with no steel anchors, bracing, or large bolt systems. Instead, it utilizes tongue-and-groove and interlocking timber joints, with a light foundation made of precast elements. This approach ensures minimal waste, as the materials used can be repurposed without any disposal.

The building is designed with thermal efficiency in mind, featuring insulated wall panels to shield against direct sunlight, while large windows and openings provide ample natural light and ventilation.

The layout of the home includes a central courtyard that creates an inviting arrival experience and offers a balance of introverted and extroverted spaces. The open-plan design connects the living, dining, kitchen, and bedroom areas, fostering a sense of spaciousness and encouraging social interaction.

The single-floor layout makes the home highly accessible, with easy transitions between spaces, perfect for gatherings. Overall, Eagleton is a model of sustainable living, where the timber used to build the home could be grown and harvested on-site, promoting a self-sufficient, eco-friendly lifestyle.
