When the client invited us to design a home on a South Bangalore property with a large lake and coconut grove, the challenge was to integrate the house with this unique landscape. We began by cleaning and enhancing the lake, creating a natural pond on-site with a filtration plant, and collaborating with the government to re-green the area.
Given the high real estate value and the potential for future development, we designed the house to be temporary and fully repurposed. We used prefabricated steel and timber for a lightweight, easily assembled structure. This approach minimized the foundation's footprint and allowed for future relocation if needed.
The house evolved from an initial plan for several homes to a
single, expansive residence with a large garden. Local
materials, such as rubble and timber, were used to create
functional and aesthetic features, including a stone temple
and a biopool with natural water filtration.
The design emphasized a linear, simple plan to ensure all
rooms had views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Large
windows and open spaces connect the interior to the exterior,
enhancing the home's relationship with its environment. A
treehouse, built among the trees, became a playful retreat for
the family.
The final result, AquaVille, seamlessly integrates with its
natural surroundings, promotes sustainability, and provides a
serene living experience centered around the rejuvenated lake.
