The 1000 Yoga project involved adding a new space to an existing three-story building. The studio and conference room featured high ceilings created by elegant curves of exposed brick barrel vaults. The courtyard served as a connecting platform between different zones of the wellness center. The yoga studio stands out for its close relationship with the courtyard, utilizing barrel vaults to introduce skylights and featuring a prominent Jali wall. These design elements serve to link practitioners with the outside environment, allowing the studio to draw energy from the surrounding nature and avoid a sense of confinement. This led to integrating elements like textured brick walls, timber floors, and wooden windows.
Additionally, the arrangement of spaces around the courtyard facilitated a seamless connection between architecture, natural light, earthy tones, and organic aging of metal and wood. Close collaboration with clients, contractors, and construction teams to ensure precision in execution was pivotal for the project. The design incorporated materials from the same family while seeking variation in form and space. The porous walls and elevated position facilitate a soothing airflow, amplifying the serene atmosphere.
Materials are sourced within a 100 km radius, incorporating
locally available resources. The steel structural system
contributes to the building's lightweight nature and
load-bearing capacity. Walls feature exposed brick facing and
cladding, eliminating the need for plastering and painting.
Re-engineered wood is used for door windows, providing wind
control and temperature regulation. Flooring choices, such as
cement and brick, are locally available and contribute to
reduced project costs.
